The Ruined City

The Ruined City is a mythical book written by John Wilson. It is about the city of Sanxingdui, or the City of Masks in the book. This book is set in two time periods, one in the past, when Sanxingdui is still a flourishing city under the rule of Emperor Kun, and one in the present, where a boy named Howard is finding Hidden Worlds.

In the past, a villain named Shenxian is out to destroy the city and wear the Golden Mask, which will allow him to travel across time and space. But a pair of children name Ting and Chen, along with a dog Fu, overhear his plans. Shenxian captures Ting and Fu, and he heads off to gather an army. Meanwhile, the Emperor Kun asks Chen to be a spy for him, and travel across secretly with Shenxian's men to rescue Ting and Fu and warn the city of when the attack is coming. Chen successfully rescued his friends and returned to Sanxingdui. There, he, Ting, Kun, and a sorceress named Jingshen protect the mask. But will they be able to repel Shenxian's powerful magic?

In the present day, a boy named Howard discovers that he is an Adept and meets others, such as his friend Cate. Suddenly, they plunge into a world of visions and different dimensions, seeing that an ancient monster's dimension, R'legh (I have no idea if I am spelling that right, please correct!) They travel through time and space to the giant, abandoned city. But where the monster awaits is even more surprising...

This book is great for fantasy reader, and those who like to learn a bit about culture, too! It is a great novel, and sadly it does not have a sequel, but you can enjoy it online! It is available on the website Epic, and online learning platform, which is where I read it.
