Tommy thought an election would be better. They were, after all a self-appointed government. An election would be fair, right? And even if they lost, he felt that he deserved a break. Tommy was sixteen, and yet he had accomplished more than an adult. He had fought a war, dueled, gave away his prized possessions, and been appointed Vice President in just a few months. He deserved a break. The world laughed in his face.
Tubbo was loyal. To his country, to his friends. But his nation came first. His nation always came first. Always. However, he did hesitate to enact the first order from the new president. He had promised his loyalty to his country. Always. To be loyal to his country, no matter the leader. It wasn't supposed to end like this.
Eret regrets his betrayal. Were his friends' lives and trust really worth the power he had gained? Slowly, he had gone back to his old friends. Although Tommy and Wilbur would never truly trust him - they were the leaders of rival nations or course - but Niki, Fundy, and Tubbo were good friends. They understood that he regrets leading them into a trap. Eret often felt that he didn't deserve forgiveness. Surely the cost of all those lives could not stand up to friendship. But as he watched the injustice following the election, Eret felt the urge to break out of his bonds, to help his former comrades, to stop the neutrality forced upon him. Maybe this was his chance for redemption.
This book is much more serious than Aria's usual writing. But it helps define the stakes of the plot. While her other books don't really deal with such dangerous outcomes, I think that this work gives Aria's writing much more severe outcomes; such as with her latest book Let's Play a Game. Again, the characters are very well developed. Warning: As with the Star Signs blog, this book literally bursts your tear ducts. There is also mild swearing, death, poison, and gore.
You can find the full book on Wattpad, as usual. I also believe that all of Aria's works are on Archive of Our Own. https://w.tt/36fEoIY
Enjoy (or rather enjoy the angst) the Work!
